ABeam European Sailing Regatta

The first ever ABeam European Sailing regatta took place on 5 and 6 June 2006. Partners and customers from all over Europe flew in to Amsterdam Airport and were met by a hostess who guided them to awaiting cars, that took them to the recently renovated Park Hotel in the centre of Amsterdam. In the evening a saloon boat picked up all the guests from the hotel and the entire group enjoyed a three course meal, while sailing over the Amsterdam canals. Early next day, everybody was taken to the Flevo Marina on the shores of the IJsselmeer where Team Heiner’s sailing centre is located. After a thrilling presentation by Roy Heiner, former Volvo Ocean Race participant and coach, everybody took to the water and received a short introductory coarse into match sailing. The actual race took place in the afternoon: with wind speeds up to 26 knots three boats shot over the water and the winning team reached the finish with by only a hair’s breadth. The exhilarating race was followed by cocktails and Dutch snack.
